Primary Function Responsible for the accurate and timely collection and/or processing of specimens in the section assigned. Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job. Compassionate Service - placing the needs of those we serve above our own; treating individuals with dignity, respect and empathy. Performs specimen collection to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing while maintaining patient dignity, comfort and confidentiality. Performs specimen processing to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing (where applicable, i.e. St. John's). Performs computer and clerical functions accurately to ensure accurate test ordering and reporting of patient results. Reviews, follows and understands established laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedures. Performs and documents maintenance and troubleshooting procedures on laboratory equipment, barcode And Clinipac printers to ensure proper operation. Complies with laboratory Safety and Infection Control policies to ensure a safe work environment. Participates in the overall operations of the section(s) and department. Maintains professional growth and development. Performs other related duties as requested.

Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent. Post-secondary training in Phlebotomy or related health care profession, i.e., CNA, CMA.

Experience:
Phlebotomy experience or education. Level II: Minimum of continuous twelve months performing all types of phlebotomy.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to perform work requiring manual dexterity, standing and walking for extended periods; Good communication skills; Good organizational skills; Excellent interpersonal skills; May need to have current valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation; Ability to assess, identify, and address the special needs of patients appropriate to their age; Ability to use a keyboard and CRT; Level II - Good problem-solving skills; excellent phlebotomy skills; Good visual and color acuity.
